This talk will give an overview of the field of shape analysis, which looks for the mathematical, computational, and statistical tools required to recognize and interpret shapes in images. It has many uses, such as in medical image analysis, where identifying shape and shape change can assist in the diagnosis of disease. Prof. Marsland will describe methods of shape analysis from the viewpoint of generalized Euler equations and geometric mechanics.
